Post 5 dominates in two wins

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The American Legion Post 5 Senior baseball team took care of business Tuesday in dominant fashion.

The Jefferson City-based team pummeled the Mid-Missouri Recruits by a combined score of 23-4.

Alex Barton led the way at the plate for Post 5 with a 5-for-7 effort between the two games. Barton drove in four runs, all coming in the second game, a 18-3 blowout. The Seniors won the first game 5-1.

Hayden Strobel contributed a 4-for-7 performance with two RBI, two doubles and a triple.

No Post 5 pitcher tossed more than two innings, as the staff struck out 15 total batters and surrendered just nine hits in the two games.

Todd Bushjost earned the win in the five-inning mercy rule win. He tossed two perfect innings with one strikeout.

Despite giving up the most hits of the seven Post 5 hurlers, Adam Grunden notched the other victory. Grunden threw two innings of four-hit ball with two strikeouts.
