Local man indicted for assault

A Jefferson City man has been indicted by the Cole County Grand Jury on numerous charges in connection with an assault that occurred earlier this month.

Court records show Marqukis Hayes, 19, is charged with felonious restraint, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, third-degree domestic assault and possession of a defaced firearm.

The case now moves onto the circuit court for possible trial.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the incident occurred in the 1300 block of West McCarty Street.

Hayes pointed a gun at the head of a female and threatened to shoot her.

He then ordered the victim to write a "suicide" note to the victim's mother and refused to allow her to leave until she finished the note.

He also took the victim's phone away from her so she could not call for help.

Hayes also left two threatening phone message on the victim's phone saying he would assault her and decapitate her.

When questioned, Hayes admitted to hiding the firearm in a utility closet under some flooring at the McCarty Street residence.

At the time, Hayes had been on probation for a robbery case from February 2013, and because of his prior felony conviction, he is prohibited from legally possessing a firearm.
