The 16th annual Bittersweet Garden Tour has five distinctive Jefferson City area sites lined up for the 12:30-5 p.m. Sunday event.

The featured gardens are: a shade garden with drainage solutions, a small city lot creatively designed, a large, established garden with perennials and vegetable garden, a perfectly-manicured corner-lot garden, and a sprawling three-lot garden with a large model train incorporating many miniature conifers.

The garden tour provides the community with an opportunity to discover fresh gardening ideas and techniques.

Tickets include the addresses and driving directions for each garden.

Proceeds from the event help Bittersweet Garden Club fund scholarships, which are awarded annually to area students majoring in horticulture, agriculture, landscaping and related areas.

The Bittersweet Garden Club, which currently has more than 70 members, was established in 1973 with the objectives of studying the basic art of gardening and encouraging the conservation of natural resources.

Complimentary refreshments will be served at each garden.

Tickets are $10 and children ages 12 and younger are free. They are available at Jefferson City and Columbia garden centers, as well as from Bittersweet Garden Club members.
