Tanner Elder leads local players at championship

HOLLISTER, Mo. - Tanner Elder leads a group of five Jefferson City golfers after the first day of competition at the Missouri Amateur Championship.

Elder is tied for 51st after the first day of stroke play in the event, as he shot a 5-over 75 on the par-70 Buffalo Ridge Golf Course.

That puts Elder in good position to advance, as the top 64 golfers in the field of 143 after today's second round of stroke play advance to match play starting Wednesday.

Teddy Jones of Wildwood is the overall leader, as he fired a 4-under 66 to beat Springfield's Wayne Fredrick by one stroke.

Also at the event, Gabe Trowbridge is tied for 71st after shooting a 77, John McCulloch is tied for 111th after an 81, Levi Elder is tied for 117th after an 82 and Sam Englund is tied for 137th after an 89.
