JC man indicted in invasion of privacy case

The Cole County Grand Jury this week indicted a Jefferson City man in connection with an invasion of privacy case.

Guadalupe Villegas-Carrera, 32, 2319 Starling Drive, was charged with first-degree invasion of privacy and possession of child pornography.

The indictment indicates the jury found there was enough evidence to send the case on to the circuit courts for possible trial.

Because the grand jury is a closed group, a probable cause statement that normally would accompany court documents is not included with the indictment.

However, Jefferson City police detectives reported earlier this month that they were investigating an invasion of privacy complaint made by a Jefferson City woman who said her sexually-explicit photos were shared with others without her consent.

Police were told June 11 the woman - who has not been named - had taken her cell phone in February to iRepair, a cellular phone repair shop in the 1200 block of Missouri Boulevard, for a routine phone repair. She later learned photos of her that were on her phone were shared among several individuals, without her knowledge.

Detectives contacted the employee believed to have committed the act, Villegas-Carrera, and seized his phone.

Police said the found a number of other pictures of various women, including the woman making the complaint, on his phone. At the time police issued their release, some of the victims had been identified, but approximately 15 more were unidentified.

One of the women pictured was 16 years-old when her photograph was taken.

Police said Villegas-Carrera originally was taken to the Cole County Jail and then released on bond.

There was no report of a new arrest based on the indictment.
