ST. LOUIS (AP) - As if the rain and flooding aren't bad enough, Missouri is now seeing an increase in mosquitoes, drawn by all the water.
The Kansas City Star reports ticks are becoming a problem, too, thanks to the wet weather.
Mosquitoes breed in wet habitat. Rain has been falling over much of the state for more than a week, and several rivers and streams are overflowing their banks. Major flooding is now projected by early next week along the Mississippi River in southeast Missouri.
