On his 10th offering, "You Shall Live," Marvin Sapp continues his honest approach of how he has combated tumultuous times with faith. No matter the heartbreak, he sings with an optimistic desire to encourage those who are struggling in the belief department.
Sapp collaborated with his longtime producer Aaron Lindsey, who once again laid down a mixture of high-energy and slowed-paced tracks that mesh well with the gospel singer's soaring vocals.
The 22-time Stellar Award winner is at his best on the upbeat "Yes You Can," singing about removing doubt from his mind and becoming stronger each day. He pours his heart out on "Thank You for the Cross" when he sings about receiving second chances. It closes out with a smooth piano medley.
On "Count on You," Sapp pays homage to the late Andrae Crouch, the Grammy-winning gospel performer and prolific songwriter who died earlier this year. Sapp sings about life being precious, urging listeners to embrace it to the fullest on the album's partial title track, "Live." The track - and entire album - hits home since Sapp's wife died from colon cancer five years ago. His voice sounds as raw as ever - even the heavens will hear him sing.
