AMAZONIA, Mo. (AP) - A train with 31 coal cars has derailed near the small northwest Missouri town of Amazonia.
The St. Joseph News-Press (http://bit.ly/1Mzsve8 ) reports that authorities are investigating what caused the train to jump the tracks around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Andy Williams, with BNSF Railway, says the train was headed southwest at the time of the accident. No one was injured, but the derailment disrupted railroad traffic and closed one road.
Andrew County Sheriff Bryan Atkins says officials told him it could take up to 48 hours to clear and repair the railroad. Crews on Saturday afternoon were unloading multiple tractor-trailers of railroad ties near the scene so repairs could be made.
