Kenneth Brown has been with JeffTran, Jefferson City's public transit system, for more than 10 years and has done every job you can think of in transit.

Starting as a driver, he went on to train other drivers before becoming a dispatcher.

Brown currently is assistant operations manager, a job that has him coming in early in the morning before the buses start service at 6 a.m.

"It's fun, and I enjoy it," he said. "It's a challenge sometimes because you have to make sure that every bus is ready to move and you have a driver in every seat. If you don't have that, then you hear a lot about it from the public asking, "Where's my bus?'"

Brown said the work they do helps the public.

"Transit is a service and a lot of people depend on us," he said. "With our paratransit service alone, we make a couple hundred runs a day."

When he isn't working, Brown said he enjoys the simple pleasures of relaxing at home.

"I take it easy like an old man should," he laughed. "I really enjoy my work. We have a great team here."
