Games played on June 4, 2015

DETROIT (AP) - Jesse Hahn allowed one run in seven innings and the Oakland Athletics completed a three-game sweep of Detroit on Thursday, winning 7-5 and handing the Tigers their seventh straight loss.

Josh Phegley hit a two-run triple in the second inning, and the A's won for the sixth time in seven games, although they still have the worst record in the American League.

Hahn (3-5) gave up five hits. He struck out five and walked one.

Detroit scored four times in the ninth, including a three-run homer by Tyler Collins. Tyler Clippard got two outs for his ninth save.

Shane Greene (4-5) allowed six runs - four earned - and eight hits in 4 1-3 innings. He made a throwing error that contributed to Detroit's trouble.

CARDINALS 7, DODGERS 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Michael Wacha pitched seven effective innings, Jason Heyward and Kolten Wong drove in two runs each, and St. Louis beat Los Angeles in the opener of a four-game series between the National League's top two teams.

The Cardinals, who knocked the Dodgers out of the playoffs in each of the previous two seasons, increased their Central Division lead to 6 1-2 games over the idle Pittsburgh Pirates while the Dodgers' West Division advantage shrunk to 1 1-2 games over the idle San Francisco Giants.

Wacha (8-1) allowed a run and seven hits without walking a batter and had five strikeouts, five days after the Dodgers beat him 5-1 at St. Louis in a game that was delayed more than 2 hours by rain. This was the right-hander's first road start against the Dodgers, whom he defeated twice in the 2013 NL championship series while shutting them out in 13 2-3 innings.

INDIANS 6, ROYALS 2, 8 INNINGS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Brandon Moss hit a two-run homer and Cleveland beat Kansas City in a game called in the eighth inning because of rain.

Trevor Bauer (5-2) allowed only a long two-run homer by Lorenzo Cain over 6 2-3 innings to continue his hot streak. The 24-year-old right-hander has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last four starts, getting to the seventh in each of them.

After struggling to score the previous night, the Indians pounded away against Chris Young (4-2) over the first five innings. They sent eight batters to the plate during a four-run third inning, and Moss added his second homer of the series with nobody out in the fifth.

The game was delayed with one out in the bottom of the eighth as lightning and heavy rain rolled into the area. The umpires waited 44 minutes before calling Cleveland's sixth win in eight games.

TWINS 8, RED SOX 4

BOSTON (AP) - Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval mishandled a throw on Joe Mauer's bunt in the ninth inning, and Minnesota broke away from Boston for a four-game split.

Torii Hunter hit his 200th home run in a Twins uniform and added two singles. Hunter's 339th career homer was a three-run shot.

Kurt Suzuki singled three times, helping Minnesota to its ninth win in 12 games.

Blake Swihart hit his first major league homer and Dustin Pedroia also had a solo shot for Boston, which has lost eight of 11.

The Twins trailed 4-0 going into the fifth. It was 4-all in the ninth when Minnesota put runners on first and second with no outs against Koji Uehara (2-3).

Aaron Thompson (1-1) worked a scoreless inning for the win.

RAYS 2, MARINERS 1

SEATTLE (AP) - Erasmo Ramirez beat his former team, combining with four relievers to help Tampa Bay defeat Seattle.

Ramirez (4-2), who was traded to the Rays on March 31, held Seattle to one run and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Xavier Cedeno, Brandon Gomes, Jake McGee and Kevin Jepsen gave up three hits and no runs over the final 3 2/3 innings.

Jepsen picked up his second save in four opportunities.

Mark Trumbo, acquired by Seattle in a six-player trade with Arizona on Wednesday, had a pair of singles in his Mariners debut.

HOUSTON (AP) - Adam Jones had three hits, including a solo homer that lifted Baltimore over Houston.

With the score 2-all in the eighth inning and two outs, Jones drove a pitch from Chad Qualls (1-3) to left field. Jones has five hits in his last two games following an 0-for-12 slump.

Wei-Yin Chen yielded two runs in 6 1-3 innings with a season-high nine strikeouts. Darren O'Day (2-0) struck out two in one inning and lowered his ERA to 0.89. Zach Britton got four outs for his 14th save in 15 chances, stopping Baltimore's five-game losing streak.

Hank Conger homered for the AL-best Astros.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter was ejected in the second for arguing balls and strikes with plate umpire Brian Gorman.

Houston lefty Dallas Keuchel matched his shortest start this season at six innings after consecutive complete games. He allowed two runs and six hits with seven strikeouts.

CUBS 2, NATIONALS 1

WASHINGTON (AP) - Jake Arrieta pitched six strong innings, and Chicago made a pair of first-inning runs hold up to beat Washington.

Arrieta (5-4) rebounded from a pair of subpar outings, pitching six innings and giving up a run and six hits. Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his 10th save.

Washington's Anthony Rendon, who missed 53 games due to injuries, had two hits in his season debut. He was up with runners on first and second and two outs in the ninth when Cubs catcher David Ross picked off Clint Robinson at first to end it.

Gio Gonzalez (4-3) allowed two runs and four hits over six innings. He struck out six and tied a season high with four walks.

The start of the game was delayed nearly two hours by rain.

RANGERS 2, WHITE SOX 1, 11 INNINGS

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Shin-Soo Choo's single beat Chicago and its defensive shift, sending Texas to the win.

Leonys Martin led off the inning with his third single and moved to second on Hanser Alberto's sacrifice. Choo grounded the ball to the right of Chicago shortstop Alexei Ramirez, who was shifted toward second base.

Dan Jennings (1-2) was the losing pitcher. The win went to Tanner Scheppers (2-0).

DeSclafani (4-4) allowed four runs and six hits. He left with two runners on in the eighth and both scored. Aroldis Chapman, whose streak of 29 straight saves ended Wednesday night, tossed a perfect ninth for his 10th save in 11 tries.

Aaron Harang (4-6) had his worst start with the Phillies, allowing a season-high six runs - five earned - and six hits with five walks in 5 2-3 innings. Harang pitched at least six innings in each of his first 11 starts and gave up more than three earned runs once. His ERA rose from 2.02 to 2.45.

METS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 2

PHOENIX (AP) - Matt Harvey stopped his three-game losing streak, John Mayberry Jr. had a two-run homer among his career-high four hits, and New York picked up a rare road win by beating Arizona.

Though the right-hander gave up solo homers to Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Paul Goldschmidt, he had the rest of the Diamondbacks swinging through pitches, striking out at least nine for the fifth time this season.

Kevin Plawecki hit a two-run double off Dominic Leone (0-1), and the Mets banged out 14 hits to win for the second time in 11 road games. Jeurys Familia got five outs for his 16th save.
