The Jefferson City Animal Shelter has a new veterinarian starting this week.
Dr. Jessica Thiele starts Thursday as the shelter veterinarian, replacing Dr. Corey McCann who left in early January.
Thiele, a native of Columbia, has spent the last three years at the Woodland Animal Hospital.
At a meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee on Tuesday, Thiele said she's excited for a new challenge and happy to stay in Jefferson City.
An early task of Thiele's will be helping to establish a written set of standard operating procedures, which was recommended by committee members who had helped cover veterinary services after McCann left.
City attorney Drew Hilpert said Thiele's salary is $70,000.
