Charges reduced against Missouri teen in grandparents' death

NEVADA, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri prosecutor has reduced the murder charge against an 18-year-old man accused of killing his grandparents.

The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/1gpHq1e) that Logan Ellison is now charged with second-degree murder in the October 2014 deaths of his grandparents, Herman and Rosie Ellison of El Dorado Springs. He had been charged with first-degree murder in their deaths.

He's also charged with armed criminal action and first-degree robbery.

Ellison is accused of fatally shooting his grandparents at their Vernon County home on Oct. 9. Their bodies were discovered the next night by their son, Ricky Ellison, who is also the defendant's father.

Logan Ellison's next court date is Aug. 25.
