Sheriff investigates Thursday midday shooting

A disturbance that turned into a shooting sent one man to the hospital for treatment Thursday afternoon.

Cole County Sheriff's Department officials said the incident was called in around 12:38 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Brooks Drive at the intersection with Jasper Lane.

The suspect vehicle had left the area and a description of the vehicle was given to other law enforcement agencies.

Jefferson City police stopped the vehicle in the 2600 block of Industrial drive and two suspects were taken into custody for questioning.

As the investigation continued, it was found that the resident of a home at the intersection of South Brooks and Jasper where the shooting occurred was headed back home. Deputies got there and were able to take that person into custody.

In all, two males and one female were taken into custody.

The male victim was taken from St. Mary's Medical Center to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

Authorities would not say what the relationship between the suspects and the victim might have been nor would they say what might have been the motive for the shooting.

Thursday afternoon authorities were securing a search warrant from the Cole County Prosecutor's Office to search the home for possible evidence in this case.

Authorities did say there was a suspicious activity call at the residence about a week ago, but nothing unusual was found at that time.

Authorities also said there was no reason to believe that this shooting was related to any of the other recent shootings that have occurred this past week.
