Police: Passenger shoots driver of SUV in back of head

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A man is in critical condition after police say he was shot by a back-seat passenger in north St. Louis County.

According to police, 21-year-old Bryson L. Evans was riding in a SUV around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and shot the 21-year-old driver in the back of the head. Authorities said Evans and another back-seat passenger began to struggle over the gun before Evans exited the vehicle and fired a shot at the passenger. Police say Evans missed and the other man was not injured.

Evans was arrested later by Florissant police, who said the three men were acquaintances.

Evans was charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

It was not immediately clear if Evans has an attorney.
