Woman shot at Hy-Vee

At about 1:30 p.m., Jefferson City police responded to several 9-1-1 calls of a shooting at Hyvee, located in the 3700 block of West Truman Boulevard. When officers arrived they found the victim in a vehicle near the Hyvee Gas station who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper chest. Emergency rescue personnel were called to the scene and transported the victim, a 22 year old Jefferson City female, to a local hospital for serious injuries.

According to witnesses and the victim, two females in another vehicle were talking to her when a physical altercation broke out, ultimately resulting in one of the females shooting the victim once with a handgun. The suspects then fled in a silver car westbound on West Truman Boulevard.

Jefferson City Police Detectives were called to the scene and began investigating. Detectives were able to develop leads, and possible suspects were identified.

Jefferson City police responded to the Hy-Vee parking lot early this afternoon after a woman was shot.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker confirmed the shooting occurred about 1:20 p.m., and that two females believed to be involved fled the scene before police arrived.

Police did not confirm the location of the gunshot wound, but an initial scanner report said she was shot in the chest.

No description of the suspects was given.

The woman who was shot is in serious but stable condition, Shoemaker said.

He said she is talking to authorities about the incident. She was taken by ambulance for medical treatment.

Police have roped off part of the Hy-Vee parking lot, and the manager asked news reporters/photographers to leave the lot.
