Mauk on watch list for Manning Award

COLUMBIA - Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk has been named to the Manning Award watch list, as announced by the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday.

Mauk, a Manning Award Star of the Week on Sept. 8 last season, is 14-4 in 18 career starts and helped guide Missouri to a second consecutive Southeastern Conference Eastern Division championship last year. The junior threw for 25 touchdowns last season and rushed for two more, accounting for 2,648 total passing yards - third-most among returning SEC passers - to go with 3,021 yards of total offense.

Mauk is one of 30 quarterbacks on the list and one of four from the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas' Brandon Allen, Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs and Mississippi State's Dak Prescott also made the cut.

This year's list includes players from all 10 Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. The ACC leads the way with five selections, followed by the SEC, the Pac-12 and the American with four apiece. There are 15 seniors on the list, 10 juniors and four sophomores.

The annual award honors the nation's top quarterback and is named in honor of the collegiate accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only college football quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting and is presented annually after each bowl season. The winner is selected by a panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings.

Inclusion on the watch list is not necessary for the quarterbacks to be selected for the honor. Midseason additions to the Watch List will be announced Oct. 14. The list of 10 finalists will be released Nov. 25, and the winner will be announced Jan. 13.
