OAKVILLE, Ontario (AP) - Jason Day birdied the final three holes to win the Canadian Open on Sunday, spoiling David Hearn's bid to become the first Canadian winner in 61 years.
Day made a 20-foot putt on the par-5 18th for a 4-under 68 and a one-stroke victory over Bubba Watson. Day finished at 17-under 271 at Glen Abbey.
Day was coming off a fourth-place tie Monday in the British Open at St. Andrews. The 28-year-old Australian also fought through vertigo symptoms last month to tie for ninth in the U.S. Open. He has four PGA Tour victories, also winning at Torrey Pines in February.
Watson birdied the final four holes for a 69.
Hearn, two strokes ahead of Day and Watson entering the round, had a 72 to finish third at 15 under.
Pat Fletcher, born in England, was the last Canadian winner in 1954 at Point Grey in Vancouver, British Columbia. Carl Keffer is the only Canadian-born champion, winning in 1909 and 1914. Albert Murray, a Canadian also born in England, won in 1908 and 1913.
SENIOR BRITISH OPEN
SUNNINGDALE, England (AP) - American Marco Dawson held off Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie over the final nine holes to win the Senior British Open.
Dawson closed with a 6-under 64 to finish at 16-under 264 on Sunningdale's Old Course. He also won the Champions Tour's Tucson Conquistadores Classic in March.
Langer, the winner last year at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, was a stroke back after a 64.
Montgomerie was third at 13 under after a 67.
MEIJER LPGA CLASSIC
BELMONT, Mich. (AP) - Lexi Thompson won the Meijer LPGA Classic by a stroke for her fifth LPGA Tour title, shooting a 6-under 65 to overcome a four-stroke deficit.
The 20-year-old Florida player won for the first time since capturing her first major title last year at the then- Kraft Nabisco Championship.
She finished at 18-under 266 and earned $300,000.
Lizette Salas, four strokes ahead after the third round, tied for second with Gerina Piller. Salas finished with a 70, and Piller had a 64.
EUROPEAN MASTERS
CRANS-SUR-SIERRE, Switzerland (AP) - England's Danny Willett won the European Masters for his third European Tour title, closing with a 5-under 65 for a one-stroke victory.
Coming off a tie for sixth Monday in the British Open, Willett finished at 17-under 283. Fellow Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick was second after a 66.
England's Tyrrell Hatton was another stroke back after a 62.
LADIES SCOTTISH OPEN
TROON, Scotland (AP) - Australia's Rebecca Artis rallied to win the Ladies Scottish Open, shooting a 6-under 66 in windy and rainy conditions for a two-stroke victory over Norway's Suzann Pettersen.
Artis, six strokes behind Pettersen at the start of the round, finished at 6-under 210 at Dundonald Links in the final Ladies European Tour event before the Women's British Open at Turnberry.
Pettersen closed with a 74.
Second-ranked Lydia Ko of New Zealand tied for fourth at 1 under after a 74.
FUCCILLO KIA CHAMPIONSHIP
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Australia's Breanna Elliott won the Fuccillo Kia Championship by a stroke for her first Symetra Tour title.
Elliott closed with a 2-under 69 to finish at 13-under 200 at Capital Hills at Albany. She earned $15,000 and a 2015 Kia Optima LX.
Elliott jumped from 78th to 23rd on the money list with $20,722. The top 10 at the end of the season will earn 2016 LPGA Tour cards.
France's Fiona Puyo and Canada's Augusta Bath tied for second. Puyo had a 65, and James shot 69.
