Post 5 Seniors fall twice in Zone

WASHINGTON, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors were knocked out of the Zone Tournament Saturday.

Post 5 dropped an 11-0 decision in seven innings to Washington Post 218 in the afternoon game.

The game was scoreless through three innings before Washington scored three runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Post 5 had just one hit in the game, a third-inning single by Jake Pridgin.

The Seniors went on to face Moberly Post 6 in the nightcap to attempt to keep their season alive.

A win would have placed them in the Zone title series today with Washington Post 218. Jefferson City would not get that opportunity, as Moberly handed the Seniors a 12-9 defeat.

Post 5 trailed 11-5 headed into the seventh inning. The Seniors scored four runs in the seventh to make it a 11-9 score in the nine-inning contest.

Post 5 did not plate a run thereafter.

Moberly would tack on an insurance run in the late innings to move onto the Zone championship. Moberly would need to beat Washington twice to win the title and the berth in the state tournament.
