OAKVILLE, Ontario (AP) - David Hearn moved into position to become the first Canadian to win the Canadian Open in 61 years, taking a two-stroke lead over Bubba Watson and Jason Day on Saturday.
Hearn, from Brantford, birdied the par-3 15th and par-5 16th, but dropped a stroke on the par-4 17th and closed with a par for a 4-under 68 and a 15-under 201 total at Glen Abbey.
Pat Fletcher, born in England, was the last Canadian winner in 1954 at Point Grey in Vancouver, British Columbia. Carl Keffer is the only Canadian-born champion, winning in 1909 and 1914. Albert Murray, a Canadian also born in England, won in 1908 and 1913.
Hearn is the first Canadian to have a 54-hole lead at the Canadian Open since Mike Weir in 2004 at Glen Abbey. Weir led by three shots, but lost in a playoff to Vijay Singh.
Watson also had a 68, and Day shot 69.
Watson eagled the par-5 13th, made a bogey on the par-4 14th and rallied with birdies on 16 and the par-5 18th. Day, coming off a tie for fourth Monday in the British Open, dropped three strokes with a bogey on the par-4 10th and double bogey on the par-4 11th, then birdied six of the last seven holes.
MEIJER LPGA CLASSIC
BELMONT, Mich. (AP) - Lizette Salas shot a 7-under 64 to take a four-stroke lead in the Meijer LPGA Classic, putting her in position for her second tour title.
The 26-year-old former University of Southern California player birdied Nos. 14-16 and closed her bogey-free round with two pars. She had a 16-under 197 total at Blythefield Country Club.
Salas had shares of the lead after each of the first two rounds, also opening with a 64 and shooting a 69 on Friday. The 2013 U.S. Solheim Cup player won the 2014 Kingsmill Championship.
Salas birdied three of the first four holes and added another at the par-4 ninth hole to pull in front. After saving par with a 25-foot putt at 13, she hit a shot inside 2 feet at the par-3 14th for birdie and followed with a 6-footer at 15 and a 30-footer at 16.
Lexi Thompson and Michigan native Kris Tamulis were tied for second. Tamulis, whose family still summers in Northern Michigan, shot 67. Thompson had a 68.
SENIOR BRITISH OPEN
SUNNINGDALE, England (AP) - Colin Montgomerie and Marco Dawson share the lead at 10 under in the suspended third round of the Senior British Open.
Darkness stopped play, five hours after the delayed start of the round at Sunningdale's Old Course. The second round, suspended Friday because of rain, wasn't completed until Saturday afternoon.
Montgomerie and Dawson each had nine holes left in the third round. Fred Couples and Philip Walton were tied for second at 8 under. Couples had seven holes left, and Walton one to go.
Defending champion Bernard Langer was 7 under with nine holes remaining.
EUROPEAN MASTERS
CRANS-SUR-SIERRE, Switzerland (AP) - England's Matthew Fitzpatrick shot a 6-under 64 for a share of the European Masters lead with countryman Danny Willett.
Fitzpatrick matched Willett at 12-under 198. Willett, the second-round leader, had a 71.
France's Raphael Jacquelin was third at 10 under after a 68.
Defending champion David Lipsky of the United States followed at 9 under after a 69. Fellow American Patrick Reed was tied for 16th at 5 under after a 69.
LADIES SCOTTISH OPEN
TROON, Scotland (AP) - Suzann Pettersen shot a 2-under 70 in windy conditions to take a two-stroke lead in the Ladies Scottish Open.
Pettersen, the Norwegian player ranked No. 7 in the world, had a 6-under 138 total at Dundonald Links in the final Ladies European Tour before the Women's British Open next week at Turnberry.
England's Holly Clyburn was second after a 67.
Second-ranked Lydia Ko, tied with Pettersen for the first-round lead, had a 73 to drop to third at 3 under. England's Laura Davies, recently inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, was tied for fourth at 2 under after a 71.
U.S. JUNIOR AMATEUR
BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - Philip Barbaree rallied to win the U.S. Junior Amateur, beating Andrew Orischak on the 37th hole after overcoming a late five-hole deficit.
The 17-year-old Barbaree, from Shreveport, Louisiana, won the par-5 29th and par-4 30th with birdies and the par-4 32nd and 33rd with pars to pull within a hole on Colleton River Plantation Club's Pete Dye Course. He tied it with a par on the par-4 36th and won with a bogey on the par-4 37th.
Barbaree matched the largest comeback in event history. Three years ago at Golf Club of New Hampshire, Andy Hyeon Bo Shim overcame a five-hole deficit to beat Jim Liu 4 and 3.
The 16-year-old Orischak is from nearby Hilton Head Island.
U.S. GIRLS' JUNIOR
TULSA, Okla. (AP) - South Korea's Eun Jeong Seong won the U.S. Girls' Junior, beating Angel Yin 3 and 2 at Tulsa Country Club.
The 15-year-old Seong finished off the match with a par on the par-5 34th hole. She finished second last year in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links.
The 16-year-old Yin is from Arcadia, California.
