Post 5 Seniors to face Washington in tournament

WASHINGTON, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors will look to continue their winning ways this afternoon at the Zone Tournament.

Post 5, which opened the tournament Thursday night with a 4-0 win against Warrenton, will take on Washington in the winner's bracket final of the five-team event at 1 p.m. today. Washington advanced with a 13-6 victory Friday against Moberly.

Alex Dickneite and Logan Vogel combined on the mound in the shutout Thursday. Dickneite allowed five hits while striking out seven in the first seven innings. Vogel allowed one hit and struck out one in the final two frames.

Post 5 scored a run in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth for the victory.

Todd Buschjost scored twice for Post 5, while Austin Sachse and Sam Bowles each scored a run. Jake Pridigin had two hits and two RBI. Sachse also had two hits in a seven-hit attack.

With a win this afternoon, Post 5 would advance to Sunday's 1 p.m. championship game in the double-elimination event. A loss would send Post 5 into a 7 p.m. contest for a chance to advance to the championship round.
