Your Opinion: Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage

Dear Editor:

The practices of marriage between a man and a woman has existed since primitive times. The religious faiths of Christianity, Islam and Judaism are based on sacred scripture from the Old Testament of the Bible and believe that marriage is between a man and woman

I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman and the U.S. Supreme Court ruling of gay marriage is unconstitutional and is the violation of the First Amendment right of the separation of church and state. The Supreme Court's job is to interpret the constitution not to make new laws.

In general during confirmation hearings for Supreme Court judges it is common practice for Congress to cross party lines and use "quid pro quo" and confirm appointees with less than adequate work histories who represent the party of the sitting president.

From a bubble gum wrapper a person can find the secrets of the universe but our Supreme Court needs a slide rule to figure out they are not consistent to the spirit of the Constitution. Nine unelected lawyers make decisions for 320 million people and don't go along with the Constitution and make up things as they go along.

I am of the opinion that the method of selecting U.S. Supreme Court justices should be significantly changed. The Constitution sets no qualifications for justices the justices should be voted into office by the public with a year term.

In an interview on Fox June 29, Chief Justice Roberts commented that the premise of the same-sex ruling was respect, happiness and equal rights. Then Roberts remarked "He is the first person in the history of the Constitution to discover that the Constitution allows gay marriage and does not allow church tax exemptions."

Still there's an active debate about the government limiting freedom of religion by forbidding certain religious practices of Christian-owned bakeries vs the "Public Accommodations Law."

Cultural Lag is a theory that describes how and why culture changes. According to this theory, social change starts with the invention of new ideas, for example, national socialism created the way to important social changes in Germany but Adolf Hitler wanted to consolidate his power and become the fuehrer by nullifying the church and disarming its citizens.

Remember, national prohibition was repealed after 13 years, the same number of years the Third Reich lasted.
