Sen. Blunt touts $3.8M for 2016 re-election campaign

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt says he has more than $3.8 million on hand for a 2016 re-election campaign. That's more than three times as much as his Democratic challenger, Secretary of State Jason Kander.

The Republican senator from Missouri said Tuesday that he raised more than $1.3 million during the previous three months.

Kander said Tuesday that he raised about $735,000 during the past quarter and has about $1.1 million in his campaign account.

Blunt first was elected in 2010 after serving 14 years in the U.S. House. He previously served as secretary of state from 1985-1993.

Kander won election as secretary of state in 2012 after spending four years in the Missouri House.

Kander has $1.1M to challenge Blunt for US Senate seat

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander says he has more than $1 million to spend on a campaign for U.S. Senate.

Kander says he's raised about $735,000 in the past three months, which takes the Democrat's total in the bank up to $1.1 million. He has spent more than $327,000.

Kander says more than 1,800 Missouri residents have contributed to his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt in 2016.

Blunt first was elected to the Senate in 2010 and previously served 14 years as a U.S. representative for Missouri.

Kander was elected as Missouri's secretary of state in 2012 after serving four years in the Missouri House. He would be one of the youngest U.S. senators if elected next year.
