Post 5 Seniors fall in Blue Springs tourney

BLUE SPRINGS - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors dropped a 7-3 decision to Ada, Okla., on Saturday in the Blue Springs Wood Bat Invitational.

Post 5 took a 1-0 lead in the first and held it until Ada went up 3-1 after four innings. Each team scored two runs in the fifth and Ada closed out the scoring with two runs in the sixth.

Todd Buschjost had one hit and two RBI to lead the Post 5 offense, while Jake Pridgin chipped in with a pair of hits. Jefferson City outhit Ada 7-5.

Buschjost took the loss in relief of Travis Hennessy, giving up four earned runs on four hits and seven walks in three innings of work. He also struck out two. Hennessy worked three innings and allowed three earned runs on one hit and three walks with five strikeouts.

Post 5, which is now 12-7 on the season, will host the Columbia Legion team in districts this week in a best-of-three series. The teams will play one game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, with an if-necessary game set for Friday.

The winner of the district will play next week in Washington in the Zone Tournament.
