Excessive heat warning issued

KANSAS CITY (AP) - More hot, humid weather is forecast for Kansas and Missouri, with the National Weather Service issuing an excessive heat warning for much of the two-state region.

The weather service issued heat advisories and excessive heat warnings for both states Monday, and extended the excessive heat warning from late Monday to late tonight.

On Monday, Jefferson City recorded a high of 95, but the heat index topped out at 107 with 54 percent humidity.

Elsewhere, temperatures reached into the upper 90s in some areas Monday, with heat indices of up to 116 degrees because of high humidity.

The weather service today's temperatures are expected again to be in the mid- to upper 90s, with heat indices climbing to 110 degrees because of the humidity. The highest heat indices are expected during the afternoon and early evening hours.
