St. Louis police probe beating death of man outside store

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are investigating the death of a homeless man who witnesses say hit his head on pavement after being punched outside a rent-to-own business.

Investigators say 50-year-old Willie Reed died after the attack about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in north St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1CrJCi5) reports that police believe Reed was punched and fell backward onto the pavement, sustaining head injuries.

Authorities say the alleged attacker fled in a sport utility vehicle driven by someone else. No physical description of the suspect was given.

An employee of the store says the victim was a regular customer.

There was no immediate word about any arrests or charges.
