Post 5 Seniors defeat Sedalia 8-5 in Blue Springs tourney

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings Friday on their way to an 8-5 victory against Sedalia in the Blue Springs Wood Bat Invitational.

Post 5 scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and three in the third. Sedalia made it 6-4 with three runs in the top of the fourth, then cut the deficit to a run with a tally in the fifth. But Post 5 clinched the victory with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Travis Hennessy had two doubles to pace a seven-hit Post 5 attack. Hennessy, Gavin Strobel and Austin Sachse all scored twice, while Sam Bowles and Hennessy drove in two runs each.

Jason Rackers was the starter and winner for Post 5. He worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and six walks. He struck out five. Bowles pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing a run on a hit and a walk while striking out two.

Post 5 (11-6) was scheduled to play another game late Friday night in the tournament.
