BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors opened play Thursday in the Blue Springs Wood Bat Invitational with an 8-0 win against Bellevue East (Neb.).
Alex Dickneite and Travis Hennessy combined on a six-hitter for Post 5.
Dickneite worked the first six innings, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out six.
Hennessy recorded three strikeouts in his one inning of work.
Cody Stegemann had a pair of doubles to lead the Post 5 attack. Zach Hudspeth and Sam Bowles also had two hits for Post 5.
Post 5 scored seven runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh.
Adam Grunden scored twice and drove in two runs, while Bowles also had two RBI.
The Invitational was scheduled to begin Wednesday, but action was pushed back due to wet field conditions.
Post 5 (10-6) is scheduled to continue action in the tournament today.
