Lincoln A.D. Kemna takes new position at university

Betty Kemna has accepted the position of Senior Women's Administrator at Lincoln University, the institution announced.

Kemna recently served as Director of Athletics at Lincoln for the past six years.

Lincoln president Dr. Kevin D. Rome expressed his gratitude for her time in charge of the athletic department.

"We say we sweat white and bleed blue at Lincoln University," Rome said in a press release. "You would be hard pressed to find someone for which this is truer than Betty Kemna. She has served our university well, beginning as a Blue Tiger athlete herself, then moving through the ranks in various leadership roles. I thank her for her service commitment and Blue Tiger Pride."

John Moseley, the Lincoln men's basketball coach, will serve as the interim athletic director while the institution conducts a nationwide search. No timetable was provided.

This move allows for a "restructure of the Department of Athletics," according to the release. Going forward, the department will report to the Office of University Advancement.

"Second only to academics, athletics play a major role in terms of collegiate branding," Rome said. "To be competitive, we also need to make certain financial connections that will help us grow our programs. The Office of University of Advancement and Department of Athletics staff will work well together in creating and maintaining the Blue Tiger fan and supporter base."

Kemna, a 1996 Lincoln graduate and Blue Tiger softball player, was hired as the second head coach in program history in 1997 and held the position for eight seasons. In 1999, Kemna took over as the Senior Women's Administrator before serving as the NCAA Compliance Coordinator in 2003, where she dealt with a five-year probation sanction that happened prior to her appointment.

Kemna eventually took the reigns as the athletic director prior to the 2009-2010 athletic year after serving as the assistant and interim. While in charge, Kemna implemented the Lincoln Hall of Fame, a corporate sponsorship program, improved facilities and assisted in the making of a second weight room. She also supervised the groundbreaking of the new campus recreation center and a new softball field this summer before accepting her Senior Women's Administrator role.
