Games played on July 5, 2015

CINCINNATI (AP) - Rookie Taylor Jungmann allowed four hits in eight innings and the Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to eight games with a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

Gerardo Parra and Adam Lind hit seventh-inning home runs for the Brewers, who finished off their second undefeated road trip of at least seven games in franchise history.

It's the Brewers' longest winning streak since they won nine in a row from April 4-13 of last season.

Cincinnati starter Mike Leake (5-5) lost for the first time since May 27. Leake, who was 3-0 in six June starts, allowed eight hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts in six innings.

Jungmann (3-1) made his major league debut on June 9. He retired the first 12 batters he faced before Jay Bruce led off the fifth with a double into the right-field corner.

ROYALS 3, TWINS 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Eric Hosmer drove in Lorenzo Cain with nobody out in the ninth inning, helping Kansas City beat Minnesota for a split of their four-game series.

Cain drew a leadoff walk against Twins reliever Blaine Boyer (2-4) to start the ninth after Ervin Santana had nearly shut Kansas City down in his return from a drug suspension.

Twins manager Paul Molitor called upon Aaron Thompson to face Hosmer, who ripped a pitch down the right-field line. Cain sprinted around third base at full speed, and a throw from Torii Hunter in right field was nowhere close to getting him at the plate.

Greg Holland (2-0) earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning.

BLUE JAYS 10, TIGERS 5

DETROIT (AP) - Justin Verlander remained winless in four starts since his return from the disabled list, allowing seven runs as his ERA ballooned to 6.75 ERA during Detroit's loss to Toronto.

Jose Bautista and Justin Smoak homered in a six-run fifth inning against the 2011 AL Cy Young Award winner and MVP.

Verlander (0-4) gave up seven hits and two walks in five innings, striking out five. He needed 94 pitches to get 15 outs.

Detroit reached the midpoint of the season at 41-40, its poorest record since a 39-42 mark for the first half in 2012.

Marco Estrada (6-4) improved to 5-1 in his last seven starts, allowing two runs and five hits in five innings. Roberto Osuna got four outs for his third save.

RAYS 8, YANKEES 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Erasmo Ramirez pitched out of early trouble in his latest effective outing against New York, and Tampa Bay took advantage of some shoddy defense to snap its longest losing streak of the season at seven games.

James Loney and Logan Forsythe each had a two-run single for the Rays, who had dropped 11 of 13 while falling out of first place in the AL East. They salvaged the finale of a frustrating series at Yankee Stadium that included walk-off defeats in the first two games.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 670th home run, the only damage against Ramirez (7-3) in six innings. Yankees hitters entered 2 for 27 (.074) against the right-hander this year and didn't fare much better.

Ivan Nova (1-2) gave up four runs - three earned - and six hits in five innings, the shortest of his three starts since returning from Tommy John surgery.

PIRATES 5, INDIANS 3

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Gerrit Cole overcame a rocky start for his major league-best 12th win and Andrew McCutchen's two-run double capped a five-run fifth inning as Pittsburgh rallied past Cleveland.

Cole (12-3) set down his last 16 batters after the Indians scored twice in the second inning and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

Cole threw 106 pitches while allowing three runs and five hits in eight innings. He struck out five and walked one after going winless in his previous two starts while pitching a combined 11 1-3 innings.

Mark Melancon posted his NL-leading 27th save as the Pirates won for the fifth time in six games.

McCutchen's tiebreaking double off the top of the center-field fence was the last of six Pirates' hits in the inning off Danny Salazar (7-4).

RED SOX 5, ASTROS 4

BOSTON (AP) - Hanley Ramirez hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and Boston beat Houston.

Ryan Hanigan and Pablo Sandoval each had three hits as the Red Sox won their third straight series. They hadn't done that since taking their first three of the season.

Rookie Carlos Correa and Evan Gattis hit consecutive homers over the Green Monster for AL West-leading Houston, which lost its second in a row after a five-game winning streak.

Matt Barnes (3-2) got the victory, striking out the only batter he faced. Koji Uehara worked the ninth for his 19th save.

Ramirez hooked a low pitch, nearly one-handing it into the first row of Monster seats against Tony Sipp (2-4) after David Ortiz walked.

ORIOLES 9, WHITE SOX 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Jonathan Schoop homered in his first at-bat since coming off the disabled list and Miguel Gonzalez threw six solid innings as Baltimore routed the White Sox.

Adam Jones had two doubles and Steve Pearce had three hits as the Orioles snapped a three-game losing streak. Baltimore had scored six runs in their previous four games combined.

The White Sox committed four errors and saw their four-game winning streak end. Chicago was trying to sweep the Orioles for the first time since 2005.

Schoop was activated from the 60-day DL before the game after being sidelined by a sprained right knee. He hit a solo homer in the second inning off Carlos Rodon (3-2), Schoop's first home run in the majors since April 15.

Gonzalez (7-5) allowed four hits, struck out three and walked one.

MARINERS 2, ATHLETICS 1

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Rookie Mike Montgomery put together another fine start, pitching Seattle past Oakland.

Coming off two straight shutouts, Montgomery (4-2) gave up one run and six hits in 5 2-3 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Montgomery was trying to join Randy Johnson as the only players in franchise history to pitch three consecutive shutouts. Sam Fuld homered in the third for the A's.

Fernando Rodney pitched the ninth for his 16th save.

Seth Smith drove in both Seattle runs with a two-out single in the sixth off Chris Bassitt (0-2).

PHILLIES 4, BRAVES 0, 10 INNINGS

ATLANTA (AP) - Ryan Howard hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, and Philadelphia beat Atlanta to stop a six-game losing streak.

Odubel Herrera singled off Nick Masset (2-2) leading off the 10th and broke for second when Cesar Hernandez lined a single into left field for his third hit. Masset walked Mikael Franco, loading the bases, and Howard's fly ball to right field off left-hander Dana Eveland scored Herrera.

Carlos Ruiz hit a two-run double off rookie Jake Brigham and scored on a single by Freddy Galvis.

Luis Garcia (3-3) pitched out of a first-and-third, one-out jam in the ninth.

CARDINALS 3, PADRES 1

The Cardinals improved to a majors-best 31-11 at home with their second successive win following a four-game losing streak. San Diego has lost five of seven.

Pham was called up from Triple-A Friday and starred in his third big league start. He hit his first homer, a two-run drive off Ian Kennedy (4-8) in the third. Pham doubled home Lynn in the fifth.

METS 8, DODGERS 0

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Steven Matz scattered two hits over six scoreless innings, Wilmer Flores went 4 for 5, and the Mets beat Los Angeles to take two out of three from the NL West leaders.

Matz (2-0) struck out eight and walked two in strongly following up a victory in his major league debut a week ago against Cincinnati. The left-hander had a run-scoring groundout in a three-run fourth that made it 4-0, giving him five RBIs in two games.

Mike Bolsinger (4-3) gave up four runs and nine hits in five innings, having made it past five innings just once in his last four starts. The right-hander struck out four and walked two.

CUBS 2, MARLINS 0

CHICAGO (AP) - Kyle Hendricks threw 7 1-3 strong innings, Chris Coghlan added an RBI single and Chicago beat Miami.

Hendricks (4-4) allowed five hits, walked one and struck out six.

Tulowitzki homered in the Rockies' four-run first inning against Rubby De La Rosa (6-4) and Carlos Gonzalez added a two-run homer off the right-hander in the sixth.

Gonzalez had three of Colorado's 11 hits and made a diving catch in right field with the tying run on in the ninth to help the Rockies end a four-game losing streak.

Jorge De La Rosa (6-3) had six strikeouts to surpass 1,000 (1,005) for his career and John Axford struck out Paul Goldschmidt with two on in the ninth for his 14th save.

Reliever George Kontos (2-1) allowed Ramos' homer.

ANGELS 12, RANGERS 6

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Albert Pujols hit his AL-leading 25th home run, Kole Calhoun homered and drove in four runs and Los Angeles finished a dominant three-game sweep of Texas.

Mike Trout celebrated his third straight starting nod for the AL All-Stars with one of seven run-scoring singles or sacrifice flies for the Angels in the first three innings.

Calhoun's three-run shot, his ninth, gave Los Angeles a 12-1 lead in the fifth, and a 25-1 advantage combined in the first five innings of the three games.

C.J. Wilson (7-6) allowed three runs in six innings, and the Los Angeles left-hander beat his former team for the second time in 10 starts.

Texas righty Colby Lewis (8-4) allowed 12 hits and 10 earned runs in four innings.
