Gov. Jay Nixon announced July 4 that the no-wake policy at the Lake of the Ozarks instituted Thursday has been lifted, effective immediately.
The Department of Public Safety and the Missouri State Highway Patrol have been monitoring conditions at the Lake and have recommended that water levels have dropped sufficiently to allow for the restrictions to be lifted without jeopardizing public safety.
"With water levels at the Lake of the Ozarks continuing to drop, it is now safe to lift the no-wake policy without putting lives or property at risk," Nixon said in a news release. "I thank the Department of Public Safety and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for working diligently to protect the public over this holiday weekend, and Missourians for complying with these necessary restrictions. The Lake of the Ozarks is a great place to get outdoors and celebrate our nation's independence, and I wish all Missourians a safe and enjoyable Independence Day."
The Governor also thanked Ameren Missouri for acting quickly to lower water levels with releases from Bagnell Dam.
The state continues to operate under the State of Emergency issued by the Governor last month and Nixon and state emergency officials continue to monitor conditions across the state.
