St. Louis circuit attorney won't seek re-election

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce says she will not seek re-election in 2016.

Joyce posted a statement Thursday on the circuit attorney's website announcing her decision. She has been the city's top prosecutor since 2001.

She says she wants to spend more time with her husband traveling to see their children and grandchildren. Joyce, 54, also notes that both of her parents died at age 57, a fact that weighs on her.

Joyce is endorsing Assistant Circuit Attorney Mary Pat Carl for the Democratic nomination next year.
