Weather Service says tornado touched down in Lee's Summit

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) - A tornado has touched down in suburban Kansas City, but authorities say no injuries were reported.

Julie Adolphson, meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service office in Pleasant Hill, said the tornado first touched down near Unity Village's 1,200-acre campus in Lee's Summit before 7 p.m.

Unity Village is the site of Unity World headquarters.

Mike Curry, director of emergency preparedness for Jackson County, tells KMBC-TV no injuries were reported.

Curry says damage includes gas leaks and heating and cooling equipment being displaced by high winds.

Damage to cars and buildings in a shopping center was also reported.

Adolphson says weather service crews will conduct damage assessments.
