ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Tina Charles had a season-high 26 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Candice Wiggins hit all five of her 3-pointers, to lead the New York Liberty to an 89-81 win over the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night.
Wiggins finished with 15 points, going 5 of 7 from the field, as New York's bench out-scored Chicago's reserves 34-7, ending a 10-game losing streak to the Sky that dated back to Aug. 21, 2012.
Three-time WNBA Player of the Week Elena Delle Donne, who leads the league at 29 points a game, finished with 26 but was only 8 of 20 from the field. She went 10 of 10 from the line, running her streak of consecutive free throws to 58, eight shy of Eva Nemcova's WNBA record set in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
It was the first meeting of the season between the teams that engineered the biggest trade of the offseason as each team sent a former Rutgers star home. Chicago (5-5) got six-time All-Star Cappie Pondexter while two-time All-Star Epiphanny Prince went to New York (6-4).
FEVER 92, SUN 84
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Tamika Catchings had 26 points and 10 rebounds, including the 3,000th of her career, to help the Fever held off Connecticut to snap the Sun's seven-game winning streak.
Indiana led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter but the Sun stormed back, pulling within 85-82 on Alex Bentley's 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining. But the Fever (4-6) made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal it.
Catchings made her first six field goals of the game, missing her first at the 8:03 mark of the fourth quarter. She finished 9 of 10 from the floor. With her 10th rebound, she became the fourth player in the WNBA history to reach 3,000 rebounds.
Kelsey Bone scored 21 points to lead Connecticut (7-2) before being ejected with 1:05 remaining in the game for a flagrant 2 foul.
STORM 74, SHOCK 69
SEATTLE (AP) - Sue Bird scored 17 points and rookies Jewell Loyd and Ramu Tokashiki combined for 25, including seven in the last three minutes as the Storm ended a five-game losing streak with a win over the Shock.
Crystal Langhorne added 15 points for the Storm (3-7), who had lost their previous three games by a total of nine points, including a 93-89 loss at Tulsa on Sunday.
Riquna Williams had 23 points for the Shock (8-2), who entered the game with an eight-game winning streak, which matched the franchise record from 2003 when the team was in Detroit.
The Shock were without All-Star and leading scorer Skylar Diggins, who sprained a knee in the win Sunday and is expected to miss all four games on the team's current road trip. They were already without Odyssey Sims.
MERCURY 85, STARS 78
PHOENIX (AP) - Brittney Griner had 23 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in her first home game since the completion of her seven-game suspension and the Mercury beat the Stars.
Phoenix led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, but Danielle Robinson's fastbreak layup with 1:42 remaining pulled San Antonio within 81-78. On Phoenix's next possession, Griner put back her own miss for a five-point lead.
Candice Dupree added 19 points and Leilani Mitchell had 16, including four 3-pointers, for Phoenix (4-5). The Mercury avoided their first three-game losing streak since 2013. DeWanna Bonner scored 13 to move into third place on the Mercury's all-time scoring list, passing Jennifer Gillon.
Sophia Young-Malcolm and Kayla McBride scored 18 points apiece for San Antonio (2-7), which had its two-game winning streak stopped.
