JC man faces local charges after chase

A Jefferson City man already charged in Callaway County in connection with a high-speed chase with authorities Sunday night is facing more charges in that same case in Cole County.

Joseph Paul III, 22, is charged with resisting arrest and driving while suspended.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows an officer stopped Paul's vehicle in the 600 block of Clark Avenue for producing excessive noise.

After getting Paul's ID and that of his passenger, Antonio Green, 18, St. Louis, the officer returned to his vehicle and, Paul drove off.

He led authorities on a pursuit that went from Clark, onto U.S. 50/63, then to U.S. 54 and eventually I-70 in Callaway County.

Paul ran stop lights and reached speeds of 100 mph within the city limits. He also drove into oncoming traffic for about seven miles.

Paul and Green were taken into custody after the vehicle crashed on I-70.

A loaded handgun and heroin were found in the vehicle.
