Cole County Grand Jury indicts eight

The Cole County Grand Jury recently handed down several indictments after finding there was enough evidence to send the cases to the circuit courts for possible trial.

Among those indicted was a Russellville woman charged with second-degree domestic assault and felonious restraint for beating a 59-year-old man with a stick and holding him captive for three days in November.

Susan Carney, 51, admitted to authorities that she beat the man, a relative, after he put his genitals in her face.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows authorities were called to a residence in the 11200 block of Jones Road on Nov. 21.

There they found the man lying on his back with two swollen eyes.

The victim told authorities Carney was a relative of his and living in the home with him.

Carney admitted to hitting the man in the face with her fist, but when authorities told her they didn't believe she had done much damage with her fist, Carney admitted to beating the man with a stick.

Eventually authorities found Carney taped the man in a chair, did not feed him and beat him repeatedly.
