Your Opinion: Time to rethink municipal elections

Dear Editor:

Seventeen percent of the votes cast could determine the next mayor of the City of Jefferson. This is a result of recent changes to the city charter. The primary was eliminated.

At the time, this may have seemed like a good idea. We could save money. There had been several years with few candidates.

It does not seem like a good idea now. Seventeen percent is too low a number to elect a city official.

I admonish the City Council to do something to improve this situation. We may need to return to a primary.
