Your Opinion: Ill-conceived attack on Conservation

Dear Editor:

The continued assault on the Missouri Conservation Commission in the General Assembly is ill-conceived, obviously vindictive and needs to stop.

House Resolution 8 proposed by Rep. Craig Redmon, 4th District, and Senate Bill 56 introduced by Sen. Brian Munzlinger, 18th District, basically would eliminate the Conservation Commission's ability to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

This proposed legislation would lead to the elimination of their financial foundation and gut all the quality programs they currently run and cripple their ability to be of service to all the fisherman, hunters, wildlife advocates and youth groups that take their existence for granted.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is the shining light of Missouri's public programs, the envy of the rest of the nation. Leave it alone. Stop trying to fix something that does not need fixing. When the Missouri voters in 1976 voted to amend our state constitution and allow for funding of the Missouri Department of Conservation they did the right thing.
