Holts Summit man killed in collision

A Holts Summit man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Moniteau County Friday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the collision occurred at 10:25 a.m. on U.S. 50. Claude Jones, 45, was wearing his safety belt when his vehicle was totaled and he died. His body was transported to Phillips Funeral Home in California, Mo.

Jones' vehicle was northbound when he failed to yield and was struck by a westbound truck driven by Arlyn Hartsock, 65, Florence. Hartsock was wearing his safety device, and suffered minor injuries, but refused treatment at the scene.

Jones was pronounced dead by the Moniteau County coroner. This is Patrol Troop F's fourth fatality for the year.

A Wright City woman was treated for moderate injuries at the University Hospital after a vehicle collision on Interstate 70 in Callaway County on Friday afternoon.

Jessica Grelle, 22, was riding with James Love, 25, Wildwood, when he tried to dodge a drive shaft in the roadway and overturned his vehicle, according to patrol reports. The vehicle was totaled; both were wearing safety devices, and Love was insured.

As a result of this collision, the previously mentioned drive shaft was set in motion and struck a second vehicle. Karen Copeland, 46, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, was able to drive away from the scene. Her vehicle sustained minor damage; she was insured and wearing her safety device.
