Monica Hoy hopes her new tanning salon, Tan Club, will offer Jefferson City a "premier, upscale" experience.
"I want people to come in here and feel comfortable in a great, luxurious environment," she said.
Located at 2701 W. Edgewood Drive, Suite 107, Tan Club opened just over a week ago and offers 12 tanning beds and one spray-tan spa, which features a heated drying option.
"We pride ourselves on really clean beds, customer service and top-of-the-line beds," Hoy said. "We walk every customer to their bed, and we talk to them about how they're tanning and how they like the results every time."
Tan Club features mostly Ergoline beds, a leading brand in salon tanning. It also showcases one of only two Ergoline Sun Angel 1400 beds in Missouri, a sensor-controlled tanning bed that customizes tanning sessions for each user's skin tone.
This is Hoy's first business venture, after retiring in December from a 26-year career working for the state of Missouri. She based the Tan Club business model on her sister's similar franchise of tanning salons in southwestern Missouri and northern Arkansas. She also enlisted help from the Cole County University of Missouri Extension's Business Development Program.
"I built it with expansion in mind. My goal is to have multiple Tan Clubs throughout Central Missouri," Hoy said.
Tan Club offers pricing including six-month memberships, monthly and 10-session packages and single sessions. The salon also sells tan-intensifying lotions, bronzers and sunless tanning lotions.
