Short $19,000, Red Kettle Campain extended to Jan. 31

The Salvation Army has pushed back the end date for the Red Kettle Campaign to reach their final goal.

The original end of the campaign was Jan. 15, but is now pushed back to Jan. 31. The local branch for the Salvation Army received permission from its St. Louis headquarters to keep pushing for the donation of the remaining $19,000 it needs to meet its goal, Lt. Christopher White said.

The Army has taken roughly $240,000 in donations from this years campaign. The funds go to support the direct services of the army, and not meeting the goal may cause some services to be cut, White said.

He then said he would hate for that to happen, but he believes in the generosity of the city and he thinks its residents can donate enough to get the army to 100 percent.

Although the Red Kettle bell ringers cease to make noise after Christmas Eve, the army is still accepting mail-in donations. Also, donations can be dropped off at the local Salvation Army office at 927 Jefferson St.
