Capital Region reaps $417K for going green

Capital Region Medical Center (CRMC) was recently awarded more than $417,000 by Ameren Missouri's Act On Energy BizSavers program. CRCM was awarded for following energy efficient improvements to its buildings.

CRMC has reduced waste and is running a greener operation, so it can allocate more resources to patient care and the needs of the community, said Martin Grabanski, CRMC director of facilities. The BizSavers energy efficiency program offers cash back for cost effective, energy-saving improvements, said Dan Laurent, director of Ameren Missouri Energy Efficiency.

Improvements to CRMC include the installation of efficient exterior and interior LED lighting, lighting controls, upgrades to the variable refrigerant volume HVAC system, and a building optimization program known as retro-commissioning. This program allows all the building's systems to work efficiently together.

The updates will not only ensure the comfort of patients and employees, it will also save CRMC approximately $350,000 annually on electricity. In other words it will save more than 5 million kilowatt-hours annually. This is equivalent to powering 315 average Missouri homes for a year.
