Six-way race set for Jefferson City mayor

Jefferson City residents will have no shortage of choices for mayor come April.

Filing for city and school board seats closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday with six candidates seeking the mayor's office: 3rd Ward Councilman Bob Scrivner, Leonard Steinman, Carrie Tergin, Edith Vogel, Roy Viessman and Richard S. Groner.

Five candidates are vying for two seats on the Jefferson City School Board - Pam Murray, Joy Sweeney, Michael Couty, Dan Renfrow and Adrian Hendricks II. Sweeney is the only incumbent seeking re-election to the board.

Incumbents have filed for the majority of the open City Council seats with no challengers filing. First Ward Councilman Jim Branch, 2nd Ward Councilwoman Laura Ward, 3rd Ward Councilman Ken Hussey, 4th Ward Councilman Carlos Graham, Municipal Judge Cotton Walker and City Prosecutor Brian Stumpe have all filed to retain their seats.

Mark Schreiber is the only candidate who filed to run for the open 5th Ward council seat.

Elections will be April 7. A primary will not be held, as Jefferson City eliminated the municipal primary elections last year.

Beginning in February, the News Tribune will be profiling all candidates running on the April ballot.
