Jefferson City inspected 53 food-service establishments during the month of December 2014.
Jefferson City's Food Code requires food-service establishments be inspected at least once every six months.
The inspections note critical and non-critical violations.
Critical violations are the more serious, as they are more likely to compromise food safety and cause health problems. Critical violations often concern improper food temperatures, either on a stove/grill or in holding areas after cooking or before cooking, such as in a refrigerator. They also could involve plumbing repairs, personal hygiene, people who are sick handling food or contamination, such as pest infestations.
Non-critical violations are more minor offenses, which could deal with cleaning/maintenance of floors, walls, ceilings, open waste receptacles, unshielded light bulbs in a food preparation area or a missing thermometer in a refrigerator.
The Food Code typically requires establishments to correct critical violations at the time of inspection when possible, or within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct non-critical violations by a date agreed to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.

Bee Line Snack Shops, 2205 Southridge Drive, three non-critical violations: no hand wash sign in men's restroom (corrected on site); walk-in cooler fan covers had dust accumulation; ready-to-use food items stored on floor.
Burger King No. 2271, 2207 Missouri Blvd., one critical violation: front cooler not maintaining temperature of 41 or below (manager stated battery was low and needed to be replaced) - and one non-critical violation: paper towel dispenser not working. Follow-up inspection: no violations.
Captain D's Seafood, 2118 Missouri Blvd., five non-critical violations: microwaves had food debris and splatter present; rack for microwave and other storage had debris present; food debris present in bottom of small refrigerator; food debris present on inside and door of Randell combo; walk-in cooler fans had dust accumulation present.
China King, 3720 W. Truman Blvd., Ste. A, five non-critical violations: microwave had food debris and splatter present; upright freezer had food debris present in bottom; prep cooler had food and other debris present; prep table had food and other debris present; lid of prep table had food splatter present.
China Wok, 520 Ellis Blvd. L, three non-critical violations: numerous items stored in kitchen area not necessary to operation of establishment; light switch to public restroom not clean; trash container not present at hand wash sink for disposing paper towels.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, 1400 Missouri Blvd., no violations.
Convenient Food Mart, 426 Brooks St., eight non-critical violations: lights very dim in back storage area; grease and food debris present around fryer area, safe area, shelving and wall; ceiling tile in customer self-service area dusty; walls in walk-in cooler, compressor fan lines and floors under rack not clean; dust present on top of single-door Pepsi cooler by bathroom and door trim to bathroom; need to detail clean floors around shelving in back room; food product observed on floor of walk-in cooler; need to detail clean counter and cooler surfaces from food debris.
