Missouri Southern pulls past LU in women's basketball

The Missouri Southern women scored the final five points of the game to break a late tie and the Lions posted a 63-58 win against the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Saturday at Jason Gym in Jefferson City.

Kelsey Williams scored five straight points for Lincoln to tie the game at 58, but Missouri Southern answered with a three-point play by Sharese Jones to take the lead back.

Lincoln missed a layup in the waning seconds and Missouri Southern got the rebound and was fouled. The Lions made two free throws with 1.3 seconds left to provide the final margin.

The game was tight throughout, and it was tied at 29 at halftime. That wasn't the only place it was close, as each team had 18 turnovers. Lincoln held a slim 31-28 lead in rebounding and the Lions had 12 assists to the Blue Tigers' 10.

Jones had 12 points to lead Missouri Southern and three other Lions had 10 points.

Kate Frazier paced Lincoln with 12 points, Lizzie Nessling and Williams had 11 apiece and Kayton Cole added 10.

Missouri Southern improved to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, while Lincoln dropped to 6-8 and 1-7.

The Blue Tigers return to action Wednesday at Central Missouri.
