2 charged in beating; victim left unconscious

A Jefferson City man and a man from Maryland are each charged with one count of first-degree assault for causing serious injuries to a man this weekend by punching, kicking and stomping on him.

As of Monday, Randall McKenzie Jr., 26, Jefferson City, and Brandon Orem, 29, Williamsport, Maryland, were each being held without bond in the Cole County Jail.

Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements show the attack occurred in the 3500 block of Missouri Boulevard, just after 11.p.m. Saturday.

A witness said she saw two men attacking the victim after the victim had fallen to the ground.

Two witnesses were able to positively identify Orem as the one who attacked the victim, and McKenzie had to pull him away to keep from attacking the victim further.

Orem told authorities McKenzie was the one stomping and kicking the victim and he had to pull McKenzie away to prevent him from further attacking the victim.

When officers got on the scene, the victim was unconscious, and McKenzie and Orem has fled the area.

The victim was taken to St. Mary's Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Columbia. He had to be intubated, suffering from a fractured jaw and bleeding on the brain.

Police found McKenzie and Orem 15 blocks away from where the attack occurred.
