Girls basketball: Fulton 62, California 56

CALIFORNIA - Sloane Totta poured in a game-high 29 points as the fourth-seeded Fulton Lady Hornets held off a late comeback Monday against the fifth-seeded California Lady Pintos to claim a 62-56 win in the first round of the California Tournament.

Nashayla Brandt finished with 11 points for the Lady Hornets, who led 18-13 after the first quarter, 35-20 at intermission before taking a 49-29 advantage into the the final period. California outscored Fulton 27-13 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

Elizabeth Lutz scored 21 points and Kamryn Koetting added 11 to lead the Lady Pintos.

Fulton (8-2) will take on top-seeded Booneville, which received a first-round bye, in a winner's bracket semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

California (7-5) will play for fifth place at 6 p.m. Friday.
