Jefferson City's JCPenney unaffected by nationwide closures

J.C. Penney Company, Inc., announced Jan. 7 that it will close 39 stores nationwide this year, but the Jefferson City store is not one of them, a corporate representative of the company confirmed.

The announcement came just after the national apparel and home furnishings retailer reported a 3.7 percent holiday season sales increase over the same period a year ago.

The closures, spanning 19 states, will include JCPenney stores in nearby states such as Illinois and Iowa, as well as many in the eastern United States, but none in Missouri.
