Data Comm, Inc., a Jefferson City-based information technology company, recently announced its purchase of Capital City Telecom, effective Dec. 31, 2014.
Another Jefferson City-based firm, Capital City Telecom provides telecommunications support as well as network cabling and security systems to offices in Mid-Missouri.
"We were looking for a way to get into the phone business, and they were looking for a way to get into the managed network services," said Data Comm President Joe Birk, noting Capital City Telecom had provided telecommunications services at Data Comm for years.
The newly-merged company's telephone services will operate under Data Comm but continue doing business as Capital City Telecom. The Capital City Telecom office will move from its current location in Taos to the Data Comm headquarters at 211 Metro Drive in Jefferson City, which has been expanded to accommodate.
All staff for both companies will be maintained and integrated at the expanded headquarters, and four or five new positions will be opened, Birk said.
"Both companies seem to be excited about working together," he continued. "It will be a team effort now."
Data Comm was founded in 1972, providing copier sales and service, IT services including email hosting and server and network maintenance, document management, and office furniture and supplies. Capital City Telecom has been in business since 1986 and was formerly owned by Gary Norment.
