Lincoln men, women hosting Fort Hays State

The Lincoln men's and women's basketball teams look to get back on the right track when the Blue Tigers host Fort Hays State in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Atletics Association matchup today at Jason Gym.

The Lincoln women will try to snap a two-game skid at 1:30 p.m., while the Blue Tiger men, seeking their first win since Dec. 4, will take the floor at 3:30 p.m.

After squaring off against top-ranked opponents during the past week, the Lincoln women (6-6, 1-5 MIAA) will have another tough test when the Blue Tigers meet Fort Hays State (13-1, 6-0).

The Tigers are coming off a 75-60 win Thursday against Lindenwood, their 12th straight victory since falling to Concordia: St. Paul on Nov. 15.

Kate Lehman has been named the MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week four times this season and leads Fort Hays State with 22.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. Chelsea Mason (13.8) and Jill Faxon (10.0) round out the top scorers for the Tigers, who are ranked first in the league in scoring offense (84.5).

Lincoln fell at Emporia State, ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Division Coaches Poll, on Saturday before suffering an 86-56 loss at Pittsburg Sate, ranked fifth in the country, on Monday.

Dorian Briggs leads three Blue Tigers in double figures with 12.1 points per game.

Hunter Yoakum is close behind at 11.9 while Kate Frazier is next at 11.7.

The Lincoln men (4-11, 1-5 MIAA) are coming off a 74-50 loss Monday to Pittsburg State, the Blue Tigers' 12th road game this season, while Fort Hays State (8-6, 2-4) will try to get out of its recent funk after suffering a 73-46 loss to Lindenwood on Thursday.

The Tigers, ranked second in the league in scoring offense (84.2 points) and first in scoring defense (66.5), are led by Craig Nicholson's 17.7 points per game. Dom Samac is next on the scoring chart at 9.0 while Achoki Moikobu and Royce Williams are both averaging 8.5.

Lincoln senior Joshua Buie continues to lead the Blue Tigers after averaging 17.6 points and 4.3 assists, both ranked third in the MIAA.

Mike Smith is putting up 14.1 points and Malcolm McDonald is averaging 11.5 to help pace the Lincoln offense, which is ranked last in the MIAA at 65.6 points per game.
