Jefferson City teen gets probation for robbing 2

A Jefferson City man was placed on five years supervised probation for pleading guilty to charges in connection with taking personal belongings from two people in August 2012 near the Simonsen Ninth Grade Center.

Rodriquez Harris Jr., 19, of 301 W. Ashley St., was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault and third-degree assault.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement said the incident occurred in the 900 block of Jackson Street.

Numerous witnesses gave police descriptions of suspects in the case.

Police said many of those witnesses were students from Jefferson City High School and Simonsen.

But, police said, at the time of the initial reports, none of the witnesses could identify the suspects by name.

Officers were eventually contacted by a juvenile witness who reported seeing the incident and provided police with Harris' name.

Harris was located and taken to the police department for an interview and later admitted assaulting the victims and taking their belongings.

Police said Harris had three outstanding assault warrants at the time of his arrest.
